Philippine Monster- An interpretation of Philippine Folklore

I remember going back to the Philippines where my parents were born after living for 10 years in Europe, I witness something very strange… When It was dark or It has always fascinated me that even in modern times, people in my country are still saying ‘’’’ to safe when stepping on grass or venturing in the forest.

The influence of Folklore in the Philippines especially in rural areas is so strong that everyone there keeps an upside-down t-shirt to reverse the Tikbalang power to makes you trap and ‘’’’.

This Folklore has really hit my imagination that I really like thinking about how they would look like. I spent countless hours searching depictions of certain monsters like the Aswang, Tiyanak.

I was fascinated not only by the interpretations of my fellow Filipinos but also by foreigners. I then decided to create my own interpretation and that is how this book was born. It was not a smooth project at first.

The project started in Oct 2015, got interrupted for several years till it ended in February 2020.
